A Backlit Slough

Inspired by some recent photos I took around Duluth and the Northshore, I thought I would try to paint this backlit slough. It was bright and color filled and I knew it would be a challenge to keep my painting loose (I struggle with this).

I started off with the usual thumbnails. Once I kind of had a feel for the scene, I blocked in my canvas.
I will admit to really enjoying the process on this piece even if it’s not exactly as I envisioned it.

I decided to stop right here because I often overwork things.

My daughter and I are leaving on a camping adventure. Of course we are bring our loaded pochade boxes and plan to do some painting. Time to pack the car!

Stay safe and remain well my friends!
