This was a real first for me. I participated in the Port Wing Plein Air Festival in northern Wisconsin, August 5, 6, and 7th. 30 artists painted around town and the surrounding area. Saturday morning was the Quick Paint competition with all of us completing a painting in 90 minutes.
It rained into the late morning on the first day so I scouted the area and found some lunch in Cornucopia which consisted of some amazing smoked fish spread and crackers. Later when the rain let up, I painted near the boat launch. The pier I set up on rocked precariously as the wind picked up. One big gust took down my pochade box easel. The painting survived but my wash bucket spilled most of its contents.
Four of my completed Plein air paintings framed and ready to deliver to the check in.
Working on my submission for the 90 minute Quick Paint
On my way home Friday afternoon I decided to do one more painting at Twin Falls Park. I clambered up the creek bed ducking under fallen trees and climbing over rocks till I came to the falls. There was no one around the entire time I painted. This little gem really surprised me by being a “Judges Favorite”! The second surprise was that I couldn’t find it when I was packing up because someone was purchasing it!! Double happy! Thank you very much and I hope you will enjoy it for a long time.
That wrapped up my first Plein Air event. It was so much fun and I met some other wonderful artists. Can’t wait for the next one.
